Culinary experiences along Sagavägen
A journey along Sagavägen is a journey through a variety of culinary arts, different cuisines that have been shaped by the surrounding countryside. As the landscape changes, primary produce also changes and the restaurants along the route give travellers and local residents a chance to taste the very best the region has to offer. Give yourself time to taste the dishes made out of local primary produce and cooked in accordance with local traditions and culture.
Along the route, you will also find a large number of small-scale food producers who have specialised in making food products out of local primary produce in harmony with the natural conditions of the region. This primary produce includes mushrooms, berries, game, game birds, fish, dairy products and vegetables. Visit farm shops, markets and local traders to buy and taste products such as klippfisk (Norwegian speciality - salted, dried cod), bear meat salami, gompa (Sami vegetable dish), gravad lax (spiced pickled salmon) and beer-marinated salmon, pike crisps, souvas (Sami speciality - salted, smoked reindeer meat), dried and smoked products of elk and reindeer, fermented Baltic herring, brown cheese, spicy lamb sausages, coffee cheese and goat whey cheese, fir shoot and sweetmeadow syrup, organic vegetables, Arctic char, tunnbröd (thin, flat, unleavened bread) baked in the traditional way etc.
The range of products is huge and just as varied as Sagavägen itself is. Along the route, you will also find food producers offering products that are more exotic for the area, for instance ostrich and turkey.
On the map you will find more information about local food producers: opening hours, products and contact details.
